Be Cheeky Peach DIPA by Wormtown Brewing Co. is being evaluated as a Fruit Beer (Category 29A) from the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines.
The beer opens with an intense aroma of ripe peach and passion fruit, transitioning into a floral, perfume-like quality. The malt profile is sweet and grainy, reminiscent of honey, though a noticeable alcoholic warmth is present. A distinct medicinal note, similar to orange-flavored cough syrup, lingers in the background.
It pours with a translucent haze, with fine carbonation rising to a frothy white head. The body is visibly viscous, with some suspended particles contributing to its thick appearance.
The palate mirrors the aroma with aggressive notes of peach and passion fruit. These flavors largely obscure the base beer, a Double IPA, until the second sip, where grainy malt and a sharper alcohol presence emerge. Bitterness is moderately high, though hop character is subtle. The finish is perfumy, leaving a long-lasting coating on the palate.
The beer has a full body and moderately high carbonation. It provides a distinct alcoholic warmth and a touch of astringency from the muddled, intense flavor compounds.
While peach terpenes are clearly intended to enhance the profile, they feel overused here, throwing the beer off balance. The lack of definition in the base style and the overwhelming artificial fruit character significantly reduce its drinkability.
