Electric Whiskers by Attic Brewing Co. is beng judged as a Double IPA (Category 22A) according the to 2021 BJCP style guidelines.
This beer pours a golden color with a very slight orange tint. It has a hazy clarity and is opaque as per the style. The head consists of a creamy and frothy off-white head of small and medium bubbles that leave a beautiful lacing on the glass. The very hop-forward aroma overtakes any malt and consists of high orange, medium orange, low pine and low tropical notes in the background. There is a very low grainy malt character and there is a very slight mineral-like quality on the nose. There is a slight grassy, dry hop character. There is no fermentation character detectable. On the flavor, there is a medium-low tartness on the beer that is out of place for the style that comes very much to the forefront of the sip. It is followed by a high hop flavor of medium-high pineapple, medium orange, low pine and a touch of coconut flesh. There is a low hop bitterness in this beer. Any malt sweetness is overtaken by the perceived tartness. There is a very low grainy malt that manifests in the finish along with the noted hop flavors along with the minerality experienced in the aroma. This beer has a medium body with medium carbonation. There is a slight warmth in this beer along with a slight creaminess. There is no astringency and the tartness causes some salivation after the sip.
The aroma of this beer is absolutely spot-on, but the tartness perceived in the flavor and the mouthfeel are not typical of the style and is distracting from what appears to be a great choice of hop additions.
