Straight Outta Norcross by Social Fox Brewing is an American IPA being evaluated as such (2021 BJCP Guidelines Category 21A).

Fresh hops waft from the glass -- a harmonious blend of candy orange slices and slightly sweet malt. The fermentation profile is clean and no alcohol is noticed in the aroma. The beer pours a light amber with slight haze and a tall, dense off-white head that maintains itself throughout the enjoyment of the pint.

The flavor is a bit light on hops overall, both in hop flavor and in hop bitterness. There is a fair amount of malt sweetness that offsets, rather than balances, the bitterness. An elevation of both hop flavor and bitterness would make this a better representation of the style. As it is, it currently drinks closer to an American Amber Ale. That being said, the hop flavors present are very enjoyable. The same candied orange note from the aroma is featured along with some peach skin.

This is a nice easy-drinking beer that would make a great “training wheels” IPA due to its nature of being too balanced between malt and hop profiles. There is something to be said for the art of subtlety in craft beer but this particular offering is just a bit lackluster overall.
