First Day of Oktoberfest Kicks Off at Schussboom Brewing Company
Oktoberfest season has arrived, and Schussboom Brewing will be hosting their 4th annual Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, September 20th at Schussboom Brewing Company, 12245 S. Virginia St., from 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
Festival traditions going back 215 years will highlight beer releases, food specials, entertainment and beer games. This is an all-ages free event and open to the public.
Schussboom will be serving 3 traditional German style beers including “Ghost of Christmas Pils” Bavarian Pilsner, “Fest Your Face Off” Fest Bier, and “Banana Hammock” Hefeweizen. Each beer is carefully crafted to match German water profiles, uses imported German ingredients and brewed with traditional methods to give you an authentic taste from the Deutshland.
Schussboom Chefs have created a delectable selection of traditional German dishes including Sauerbraten. One of Germany’s national dishes, this authentic German Sauerbraten beef roast is marinated for 7 days with red wine vinegar, caramelized vegetables and spices, then braised until tender, and served with a wonderfully rich and flavorful sweet-tangy gravy.
Bursting with flavor, traditional German style house-made Brats simmered in Schussboom Porter caramelized onions and finished on the grill served over sauerkraut will be firing all day long. Each dish is served with German red cabbage flavored with red wine and apples, warm German Potato salad with bacon and onions and traditional Spaetzle.
Schussboom’s Pastry Chef has created an Apfelbrand, a German-inspired choux puff filled with vanilla apples, lemon vanilla cake and topped with an apple twill, white chocolate medallion and Chantilly cream.
Food specials will be served from 12:00-8:00 and available until it’s gone. The normal brewpub menu will still be served.
Included in the day’s festivities will be live entertainment from GBD Brass from 1-3 pm, First Take OomPah from 6-9 pm, dancing, free beer games including Stein Holding and Beer Chugging for teams and individuals and Flunkyball. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their finest Lederhosen or Dirndl dresses for the costume contest at 4:00 pm.
