Nine Pin Ciderworks Receives $50,000 Grant for Exciting Expansion Project

Nine Pin Ciderworks, acclaimed as New York State's inaugural farm cidery, proudly announces the successful acquisition of a $50,000 grant from the Empire State Development Grant Fund Awards in the latest funding round disclosed earlier this month.

The grant is designated for Nine Pin's shovel-ready expansion project, focusing on the enhancement of its indoor tasting room and the implementation of necessary delineation and barriers within its manufacturing space. The proposed plan involves repurposing a section of the existing manufacturing area, incorporating a forklift wide half-gate to separate the renovated public space from the operational domain.

Part of the renovations includes the installation of two new fully compliant gender-neutral bathrooms. Additionally, the expanded space will seamlessly connect to the existing outdoor patio, creating a versatile event space blending indoor and outdoor elements for private functions. The integration of a new glass overhead door aims to flood the space with natural light, providing patrons with captivating views of the neighboring park, Albany's iconic Nipper statue, and nearby nightlife establishments – elevating the on-premise experience for regular and agritourist customers alike.

“We’re very excited about this award, and are so thankful to Governor Hochul and the Regional Economic Development Council for their consideration,” said Alejandro del Peral, co-founder and cidermaker. “We’re entering into our tenth year of operation in 2024, and this project will launch us forward for another decade with the expanded space allowing for more entertainment and production to share our New York grown ciders with the community.”

Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, “New York State support for the growth of its robust craft beverage industry is helping cideries like Nine Pin Ciderworks expand to meet customer demand. As the state’s first farm cidery, we are thrilled to see their continued growth and success.”

This marks Nine Pin's third transformation of its Broadway location in Albany's Warehouse District. The journey began in early 2014 when Nine Pin initially renovated part of its warehouse to introduce a small tasting room. The turning point came in 2016, following a grant from the Empire State Development in 2015, which facilitated a significant expansion of the tasting room and the acquisition of seven 6000-gallon fermentation tanks. This expansion spurred substantial growth in both on-premise and off-premise sales, solidifying Nine Pin's standing in the cider market.

Cider enthusiasts can savor Nine Pin's exceptional offerings seven days a week at their Albany Tasting Room, situated in the heart of the City's Warehouse district. The cider is also available at select retailers throughout New York State, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, as well as in bars and restaurants that proudly feature Nine Pin products. For those residing beyond these states, Nine Pin's ciders can be conveniently ordered through their online store.

As Nine Pin Ciderworks continues to evolve, this grant-supported expansion promises an even more immersive and enjoyable experience for patrons, solidifying its position as a pioneer in New York's craft cider scene.
