Copious amounts of Mosaic and Amarillo hops bring both east and west IPA styles together. This IPA truly set itself apart from the IPA hordes with a resinous candied tropical experience and hints of bitterness throughout.

Passion Fruit Double IPA by Garage Brewing Co. was judged as Fruit Beer (29A BJCP 2021) with a base style of Double IPA (22A). A neutral malty aroma with a hint of crystal malt rests underneath a relatively subtle fruit character. Fruit aromas hint at nectarine and pineapple, but are quite restrained. The color is light copper and very clear. An off-white, light head persists on the rim of the glass. The flavor is assertively bitter with a mild, underripe fruit skin quality (think of the sharpness you might get from chewing the skin of a young Granny Smith or other tart apple). Alcohol can also be tasted, lending a slight nuttiness and light solvent-like character. The fruity flavors are tropical and grapefruit-like. The mouthfeel is relatively full-bodied, and warmth from alcohol is apparent. Overall, this comes across as a very big and bold beer with somewhat angular fruit and alcohol flavors that challenge the palate. If bold beers are your jam, this is a beer you would want to find and enjoy.
