Rally Circuit White by Garage Brewing Co. is being evaluated as a Witbier (Category 24A) from the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines.
Rally Circuit White starts out with the aroma of moderate orange and lemon zest, which is quickly followed by a candy-like bready malt character with an impression of sweetness. The yeast-derived esters are fairly powerful, with no hop aroma or spicy phenols underneath. A hint of sulfur character emerges as the beer warms. The flavor is quite similar, with prominent orange and lemon zest taking center stage. Moderate candy-like bready malt sweetness develops in the middle with moderately low hop bitterness, lingering into a medium-dry finish. No hop flavor or spicy phenols emerge behind the malt and esters. Moderate acidity in the flavor offers a bit of a refreshing character but is a touch high. The medium gold color and moderate haze fits well within style.
Overall, this is an enjoyable Witbier, but a bit one-dimensional with the prominent fruity esters and candy-like malt. The presence and complexity of coriander would really help pick this beer up and provide some balance to the big orange and lemon zest.
