Unscrupulous by Low Road Brewing is a New England IPA and is being evaluated as a Specialty IPA (category 21B in the 2015 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines). New England IPAs are known for their juicy/tropical fruity/citrusy hop-forward character, hazy appearance and lighter-than-typical American IPA bitterness. Unscrupulous was brewed with Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops.
Unscrupulous pours golden in color, is very hazy and sports a medium, off-white, retentive head. The aroma is prominent hops with aromas of resins and tropical fruits. The body is medium with a moderate creaminess. The flavor is of moderately strong tropical fruit and citrus hops over a light, grainy malt. The beer finishes moderately bitter with lingering citrus and tropical fruit hops.
Unscrupulous is a solid New England IPA. The hops are prominent and complex, but the intensity decreases slightly in the finish. The bitterness is on the high side of the style and is more akin to an American IPA. Regardless, Unscrupulous is a solid IPA and will be enjoyed by all hop heads.
