Birthday Month: Czech-Style Pilsner by Wild Leap Brew Co. was judged as 2021 BJCP Category 3B, Czech Premium Pale Lager. Typified by a certain green-bottled Czech import, this style has richer, more characterful malt flavors than most Pils-type beers brewed in Germany.

This beer has a substantial noble hop aroma that has an herbal, soothing character. It’s not an aroma that’s frequently encountered in U.S.-brewed beers and instead resembles a premium European product. It has a tall, dense, white head and is clear and very pale in color. This beer’s flavor is well balanced, consisting of both rich malt character and multi-stage hop presence. It has notes of honey and crackery pils malt. It is also firmly bitter with an herbal and light peppery/spicy hop flavor. This beer finishes dry and crisp and has a medium body. Overall, it’s a delicious beer and a choice alternative to mass market versions.
