Ankleknocker Gluten Free, named for a 320 foot long trail bridge in Baxter State Park, Maine, is a new series of gluten-free beers from ZēLUS. Made with all gluten-free ingredients and in collaboration with Wellesley Ale House, a celiac brewer, we first bring you a Pale Ale to rival “real’ beer. Using a base of Sweet Sorghum and Brown Rice, we mash in Quinoa, Gluten-Free Flaked Oats, and Buckwheat. Hopped with citrusy favorites Cascade, Amarillo, and Simcoe. Ankleknocker Gluten Free beers. Born from a desire for better tasting gluten-free beer. Taste the difference.

Ankleknocker Gluten Free Pale Ale by Zelus Beer Company was judged as BJCP Category 31A, Alternative Grain Beer.
The aroma is dominated by a grapefruit-type hoppiness. Low ester levels are also present and are generically fruity. The grapefruit character is both fleshy and pithy. This beer is turbid and has a pale peach color. Its open, sudsy head fades quickly. The flavor is also quite hoppy with dominant grapefruit pith character. It is very bitter with an herbal, earthy character. The bitterness lingers well after the finish. It is medium in both body and carbonation level. It would benefit from higher carbonation. Overall, this alternative grain beer could fool many a drinker into thinking it was a standard all-malt, gluten-filled pale ale. However, the hop choice and aggressive bitterness make this one miss the mark.
