pFriem Family Brewers Co-Founder and Brewmaster Josh Pfriem Talks Vinifera Saison

We spoke with pFriem Family Brewers Co-Founder and Brewmaster Josh Pfriem about Vinifera Saison.

Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Kyle Krause our Lead Blender

What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The Rose’ character of the beer is what makes it so dynamic. You get big strawberry, watermelon, and peach combined with the rustic character of a saison. This all came together in nice harmony.

Where does this beer’s name come from?
Like most beers at pFriem we just call them what they are. Vinifera refers to the common European grape. We used Grenache grapes for this beer which fits into that category of common grapes in Europe.

Is this your “desert island beer?”
This would be a fun beer to have on a desert island, but not my desert island beer.

Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Opens with vibrant aromas of fresh wild strawberries, grapefruit, watermelon, and a hint of peach. These ripe aromas carry over to the palate and are accented by notes of fresh florals, mint, and minerality.

Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
When we have brought this beer to beer festivals it has been so fun to see people’s responses! When wine meets beer and they work in harmony, it’s a beautiful thing!

What’s a good food pairing for this beer?
Just about anything you would pair with Rose’ – Soft cheeses, melon, strawberries, and sunshine!
