Light ‘n Social by Social Fox Brewing is an “American pilsner” and was judged as an American Lager (BJCP sub-style 1B). It poured clear and golden into the glass where it set up with a very thin white head with only modest retention. Its aroma led off with notes of lager yeast, sweet corn and hints of pilsner malt but no hop aroma. The flavor was initially dominated by pleasant light malt balanced by neutral (presumably noble) hop bitterness but no distinctive hop flavors. This initial analysis revealed a simple, refreshing lighter lager, consistent with style – no surprises in terms of off-flavor or aromas, lending itself to a wide spectrum of beer drinkers. The mouthfeel was crisp, moderately dry and had no off-flavors or alcohol warmth, again which was to-style. Carbonation was low for the style, but it remained a pleasantly quaffable but not exceptional example of a well-brewed American lager.
