Sun Stare by Ursula Brewery is being judged according to the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines, Category 21C – Hazy IPA.
I am presented with a fragrant and juicy tropical fruit mélange that emerges from this hazy golden ale. A large, two-plus inch rocky white head lasts several minutes and leaves some sticky lacing on the glass. Varied hop aromas and flavors of mango, papaya, clementine and pineapple are found in this well-crafted beer. Medium cereal and white cracker malt aromas and flavors support the juicy hops.
As appropriate to style, the rich hop character does not come with heavy bitterness – the hop bitterness is medium-light in this hop-forward beer. The fermentation is clean, leaving no fruity esters behind, and the beer finishes mostly dry with lingering juicy sweet hops. A medium body and medium-high carbonation provide a light tickle on the tip of the tongue. This exemplifies the style well, and I would gladly drink multiples of these.
