We spoke with pFriem Family Brewers R&D Brewer and Lead Blender Kyle Krause about Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Brown Ale.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
This beer was a collective effort from the brewery management team.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
I’ve always appreciated a well-crafted brown ale and this beer is a bigger and bolder rendition of everything we love about them. The rye whiskey really plays well with some of the nutty roast and toffee notes that the malt brings.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
No. This is more of a special occasion beer, made for sipping slowly.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Rich toffee, cherry cordial and roasted nuts soaked in whiskey.

BC: What’s a good food pairing for this beer?
Shellfish, hearty comfort food or rich chocolate.
