The Guild Announces Expansion into Massachusetts; New ‘Guild Garden’ Coming Soon to Plainville Square

In partnership with Jeff Kinney, the best-selling author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, The Guild Brewing Company announced today its plans to bring a first-class food and beverage garden to downtown Plainville, Massachusetts.

Set to open in the fall of 2025, The Guild Garden at Plainville Square will be a roughly 8,000-square-foot, outdoor food and beverage garden located in the fast-evolving Plainville Square development, adjacent to An Unlikely Story Bookstore & Café. This new location will be The Guild’s first expansion outside of its home state of Rhode Island, where it currently serves as the state’s largest craft brewery. The Guild operates its brewing, packaging and distribution operations out of its Pawtucket headquarters, as well as a beer hall and restaurant in Warren and a pop-up seasonal beer garden in downtown Providence.

“Since opening our first set of doors in Pawtucket in 2017, The Guild has taken a great deal of pride and even more joy in welcoming friends and families (often along with their pets) to our Rhode Island locations, and we can’t wait to bring that same welcoming, community-centric model to Plainville Square,” said Jeremy Duffy and Devin Kelly, co-founders, The Guild Brewing Company. “Jeff and Julie Kinney are building something special in their hometown, and we are honored and ready to play our part in bringing their vision to life.”

Plainville Square consists of the four corners at the intersection of Bacon Street and South Street in the heart of Plainville, Massachusetts. Once home to abandoned or otherwise derelict space, Jeff & Julie Kinney launched their vision of revitalizing the area in 2015 with the opening of An Unlikely Story. With the addition of The Guild Garden and future plans to add an anchor restaurant, adjoining event space, flexible retail market space and an adaptable village green, the Kinneys seek to create vibrant spaces for gathering, connection and community.

“Our goal in redeveloping the center of Plainville is to create a buzzing town square that acts as a ‘third place’ – a spot where community can grow and new friendships can take root. The planned food and beverage garden is a key to a thriving center, and we’ve found the perfect partner to help us execute our vision in The Guild,” said Jeff Kinney.

The Guild Garden at Plainville Square will feature a full kitchen and a rotating menu of beers manufactured The Guild’s Pawtucket headquarters, as well as a selection of wine and non-alcoholic beverage options. The unique space will include bar service, food prep, and covered seating within curated shipping containers, and support a range of uses, from live music to standalone events and author events hosted in partnership with An Unlikely Story.

“The Guild impressed us with their passion for creating spaces where families can gather and meaningful connections can be formed,” Kinney said. “On top of that, The Guild has a top-tier line of food and beer offerings, which we are excited for Plainville residents and neighbors across the wider region to enjoy.”

The Guild Garden at Plainville Square is currently under construction. Plans for a soft opening will be announced in the coming months.
