Von Ebert Brewing Debuts Giant IPA Silo, Releases Limited Fresh Hop Beer

Von Ebert Brewing is making a bold visual and flavorful statement in Portland’s N. Mississippi Ave. neighborhood. With the reveal of a towering beer can silo and the launch of a surprise fresh hop IPA, the brewery blends artistry, community, and craft innovation. The installation marks a milestone in Von Ebert’s growth—and a toast to the local spirit that fuels it.
According to a press release from Von Ebert Brewing, today, the company unveiled what it believes is the biggest and only beer can silo in Oregon. At 12 by 26 feet, if the silo were filled with beer, it would hold nearly 158,000 pints.
“The N. Mississippi Ave. neighborhood has been a truly welcoming home to Von Ebert Brewing since we moved in and we wanted to return the favor, not just by serving delicious beer at the taproom, but by bringing even more people to this quirky, iconic street to see Portland’s – and Oregon’s, maybe the world’s – largest IPA beer can silo,” said Sam Pecoraro, brewmaster of Von Ebert Brewing. “As part of the unveiling, we invite people to come by for a selfie and a pint of Fresh Hop Volatile Substance NW IPA with Mosaic.”
To mark the occasion, Von Ebert Brewing is releasing a surprise fresh hop version of Volatile Substance NW IPA with Mosaic hops from Coleman Agriculture, which will only be available on draft for a limited time starting on September 25. Earlier this month Von Ebert Brewing released three other fresh hop beers and were inspired to do one more.
Von Ebert Brewing hired local mural artist Allison McClay to hand paint the formerly plain black silo into a can of its award-winning Volatile Substance NW IPA, which is available at all its brewery locations as well as with Northwest bars, bottleshops and grocery stores. The silo builds off a commitment to supporting local community partners. Much of the taproom décor came from N. Mississippi nursery, Pistils. And the brewery parking lot is home to critically acclaimed barbeque food truck, HarBQ.
Von Ebert Brewing opened its N. Mississippi location (825 N. Cook St., Portland) to expand production and distribution from 4,000 barrels per year to as much as 20,000 barrels per year. This allows Von Ebert Brewing to sell more of its offerings in 12-ounce cans including: Volatile Substance NW IPA, Sector 7 Hazy IPA, Pils a German-style Pilsner and Clubhaus Lager.
