Cosmic Guava West Coast India Pale Ale is being evaluated here as a #21A American IPA, as it does not have fruit in it, contrary to the name!
In the glass, it is mostly clear with a slight polyphenol haze. Deep golden color with a white head of fine bubbles. On the nose, it’s a mix of diesel, light onion and distinct tropical fruits, guava and pineapple with a mango note. Really nice nose on this, almost a candied tropical fruit thing. On the taste, it has a fairly high bitterness but is never harsh. Subtle sweetness from the pilsner malt comes through as well. Tropical fruit abound and that guava note is no joke. Really cool blending of old school West Coast bitter dryness with a distinct modern twist. Pineapple and guava into the finish and clean fermentation.
This is a great IPA to bridge the gap from old school to the juicy crowd. Great stuff that may be a just a touch on the sweet side.
