Terrapin’s French Toasted W-n-B Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout was a lot to take in.
More than likely, a combination of Mother Nature and Father Time took their toll on this gentlemanly double-wax sealed fellow, and that might be on us.
Or maybe some errant French Toasting occurred during the brewing process. A beer that might be expected to age OK — as in several months — didn’t quite turn out that way. Bitter coffee collided with sticky maple syrup, leaving a resiny goo coating in the mouth.
We stored the bottle upright in consistent temperatures without too much light. We know the fresh pours were outstanding. So this one is a bit of a mystery. Sometimes, beer tasting can be a penance.
