Double Sunshine by Lawson’s Finest Liquids is a double IPA and is being evaluated as a double IPA (category 22A in the 2021 BJCP Beer Style Guidelines). The focus of the double IPA style is hops, hops and more hops. Additionally, despite being a high-alcohol content style, double IPAs are fairly drinkable and lack a heavy malty body that are more typical traits of beers of this strength. Double Sunshine measures in at 8% ABV.
Double Sunshine pours dark golden in color, is clear and sports a white head. The aroma is moderately citrusy (peaches?) and redolent of resiny hops with a light dank note over a hint of malt. The flavor is prominently resiny hops over a light nutty maltiness. The beer finishes with a moderately strong bitterness with moderately strong, lingering resiny hops and a lighter citrusy note.
Double Sunshine is a solid Double IPA. The hops are prominent, as is the bitterness, and the beer is surprisingly easy to drink despite its 8% strength. Definitely seek out this well-brewed DIPA if you’re in the mood for one.
