Timmermans Lambicus Blanche

Timmermans Lambicus Blanche

Belgium
Timmermans Lambicus Blanche, Brouwerij Timmermans
Description

The White Lambicus is unique. It is a blend of Lambic and malted wheat beer, to which spices such as coriander and dried orange peels are added. Its scent is reminiscent of freshly cut wheat, enhanced by spicy notes. Its slight acidity balances perfectly with its fruity notes. It’s a refreshing beer.

Timmermans Lambicus Blanche by Brouwerij Timmermans was judged under the category of Lambic (#23D) per the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines.

The pour of this beer revealed a light golden hue that was very opaque and translucent in appearance. The beer had a slight chill haze with a nice rocky carbonated white head revealing small, tight bubbles with very good retention. The aroma of this beer had hints of stone fruit (peaches) and apples and a slight hint of honey underneath, providing a welcoming hint. The initial taste of the beer revealed an array of complex flavors that was light, subtle and utterly beguiling. Since this is a lambic, I got light hints of sourness from this beer that blended nicely with the other flavors without compromising or overwhelming the light malt character nor the faint hop bitterness. Beyond that, the lambic had a noticeable fruit quality with (again) peaches and apples springing to mind along with honey accents. I also got a slight farmhouse flavor most associated with saisons that made it more complex and interesting along with a slight undertone of breadiness. The body and mouthfeel of this beer was tingling in the palate with an almost champagne-like quality in the carbonation. The finish of this beer is smooth with a bit of dryness.

One wouldn't think that this was a beer because it almost tasted like a soda (which is meant as an extremely high compliment). Nice fruity and juicy flavors, honey overtones, light maltiness all combined with a slight sourness made this beer very complex and compelling.

This nearly flawless beer should serve as the standard-bearer for the lambic style going forward. Amazing.
