German Beer, Goat Races, and Polka: Sly Fox Bock Fest Returns to Pottstown

This weekend, Sly Fox Brewing Company, is back with the exciting blend of German beer culture and friendly contest spirit. In what has become a spring tradition, guests will enjoy ever-popular goat races, delicious bock beers, live polka, and a selection of filling German-style dishes. But more than the celebrations, the event also supports some worthy charities, so the community unites for a day of fun with a mission.

In a press release, Sly Fox Brewing Company announced that this year’s edition of beloved Bock Fest & Goat Race will take place on Sunday, May 3.

This annual celebration of German beer culture features traditional bock beers, live polka music, German-inspired food, and the day’s highlight: the famous goat races. 

Event Highlights Include: 

�� Goat races begin around 2:00 PM 

�� A lineup of traditional bock beers alongside Sly Fox favorites 

�� Live traditional polka music 

�� German-inspired festival fare 

The winning goat earns ultimate bragging rights and the honor of having Sly Fox’s Maibock named after them, which will be tapped immediately following the race. It’s one of the brewery’s most unique and anticipated traditions of the year.

Supporting Great Causes 

The event raises funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Brandywine Valley SPCA

Founded in 1929, Brandywine Valley SPCA is dedicated to ending animal suffering and strengthening community involvement in animal welfare. The organization will bring adoptable dogs to the festival, allowing attendees to meet animals in need of loving homes. 

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation works to change the lives of children with cancer by funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering communities to help cure childhood cancer. All tips collected during the event will be donated directly to the foundation.

Live Music 

Live oompah music will be performed all day long, highlighted by Alex Meixner, a nationally acclaimed musician, bandleader, and educator known for his dynamic approach to polka music.

With roots in classical, jazz, and ethnic traditions, Meixner blends genres including pop, funk, jazz, and polka into high-energy performances that celebrate culture, community, and tradition. Alex takes the stage following the crowning of the Goat Race champion. 

Kicking off the day are long-time polka stalwarts, the Emil Schanta Band, who have played every single Sly Fox Bock Fest since 2000. During the goat race itself, Kermit “Dr. Squeezebox” Ohlinger performs right on the track during intermission.
