From the Editor (Issue 77)
Welcome, one and all to the Spring 2025, Issue 77 of The Beer Connoisseur magazine!
You might notice that things look a little different around here… and you’d be right. For the first time in 10 years, we updated our website and we couldn’t be happier about the results. This was a major undertaking, but ultimately, the site looks fresher, cleaner and easier to navigate than ever before. Click around and see if you find anything new and fun to explore!
In terms of our Spring issue, we’ve got a number of intriguing stories to keep you engaged, informed and entertained.
Kicking things off is an unusual story from Jim Dykstra about sharing a beer with an ex-Mormon – what happened to be this gentleman’s first beer ever… at age 28. Jim explains that one way to make sharing a pint special is through the introduction of a little ritual to the process.
Next up is a story from Brett Cortelletti about the joys and travails of obtaining spirits barrels for beer brewing in 2025 from various sources who know the practice well. The desire for terrific barrel-aged brews is not abating, so it’s no surprise that these barrels remain hot commodities.
Then, it’s a trends story about the next big ticket in the beverage world, which is “balancing comfort, adventure, and automation.” What does that mean? Read the story to find out!
After that, it’s a look into the age-old question for beer connoisseurs: just how much beer is too much, and how little is just right? With new reporting from the Surgeon General, Jonathan Ingram explores it all backed by facts, feelings and felicitous forays into the world of beer.
The issue closes out with two stories on hot topics in the beverage world: non-alcoholic beers and THC beverages. Both are trending in a major way in 2025, and we’ve got a couple of primers on why (and how) they’ve risen so far, so fast.
Of course, the issue wouldn’t be complete without our beer reviews, brewer Q&As and industry news sections – which are collected in full instead of separated as single stories for easier browsing and site exploration.
We’re so happy you joined us for our Spring edition, and we also hope you spend lots of time checking out our brand-new website. We couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out, and we hope you enjoy both the new site and our Spring 2025, Issue 77 of the magazine.
Cheers!
