From the Editor (Issue 79)

It’s time for another issue of The Beer Connoisseur Magazine! With summer in full swing, nothing hits quite like a cold (or cellar temperature, depending on the style) beer on a sweltering day.

As such, these beery interesting stories are sure to wet your whistle while whetting your appetite for intriguing beer-related editorial. Kicking things off is our longtime contributor Jonathan Ingram speaking with Bob Leggett of Artisanal Imports about the U.S. tariffs, and their ominous impact on beer imports as well as the beer industry in general.

Following that, it’s a concerning expose from Alexander Robino about the appearance of PFAs (aka the dreaded “forever chemicals”) in beers that you might be quaffing pints of on the regular.

Jim Dykstra drops in with a treatise on the amusingly named “zebra striping” trend, which is pretty much just a minor “temperance movement” gussied up with a shiny new marketing term. Noted author Kevin Kluesner joins us for a discussion of his Cole Huebsch series of novels, which feature local craft beers heavily. Sounds like a bestseller to us.

David Kriso returns with a look at seven of the top breweries in Washington D.C., and then Brett Cortelletti explores the unsung heroes of the craft beer taproom (or restaurant, or bar, or bottle shop): distribution reps. Brett explains that the craft beer industry simply wouldn’t be what it is today without these important members of the community.

Our last story is from Ivan Farkas, and it explores the novel concept of using an extremely unusual adjunct to help sour and wild beers taste better: the lowly field pea. This extremely common (and frankly ancient crop) actually delivers scientifically proven improvements to the souring process during fermentation. An extremely interesting and easily digestible (get it?) story.

Of course, check out the newest beers in our Official Review as well as our Brewer Q&As, or get caught up on any breaking beer news you might have missed over the past few months.

We thank you for joining us for this Summer Issue.

So, come on in. The water (and beer) is fine.

Cheers!
