From the Editor (Issue 81)

As days cool and the calendar’s end approaches, brewers scramble to bottle autumn so that we may drink in the season. It’s a time of change, yet also a time where we renew our ties to tradition, and old, familiar faces. For The Beer Connoisseur magazine, that means an old editor returning to man the pages for our Holiday 2025, Issue 81. In this issue, you’ll take a trip around the world, into deep history, and gaze into the future. All in time to return home for the holidays.

Relax in your armchair as Alexander Robino brings you the ideal combination of classic beers and books with Ales and Tales: Beer and Literature Pairings, designed to transport you to a different realm on two fronts.

Once you’re settled in, double down with the latest from the world of THC and Beer from Jonathan Ingram, blazing off the presses and rolled up into lucid takeaways for the coming year.

Since we’re in the general area, we’ll head north for a review of “Kim Jong’s Ales”, documenting the surprising craft beer culture of North Korea, built from the bones of a historic English brewery.

From our vantage point in the Hermit Kingdom, we’ll take a meditative break to engage the senses with Mary Beth Skylis, returning to guide readers through the rhythm and ritual of winter through the lens of a pint glass.

The chill beauty of winter creates the perfect opportunity for Heide Brandes to take us up to Snowy Mountain Brewery for a rejuvenating dip into hot springs (and llama bonding experience) in an authentic Old West setting.

This prepares us for our final journey, back in time to Ancient Greece and China, for a philosophical take on the nature of drinking games, and what they mean for humanity.

Having successfully taken a trip around the world, looking forward and backwards in time, we can gladly return home to the warmth of the fire, following our noses to the kitchen for the world’s greatest Thanksgiving turkey recipe from Chef Michael Brenfleck of Little Walter’s, made with Bitburger Pilsner brine.

What is old is new again. It’s true of magazine editors, beer culture, and human nature itself. Here’s to change bringing fresh perspective, hope, and simple enjoyment of life over a full pintglass.

Thank you for reading, and Hoppy Holidays.

Cheers!
