De Proef Brouwerij Brewmaster Dirk Naudts and Professor of Brewing Saskia Waerniers Talk Green's Gluten Free Dry-Hopped Lager

We spoke with De Proef Brouwerij Brewmaster Dirk Naudts and Professor of Brewing Saskia Waerniers about Green's Gluten Free Dry-Hopped Lager.

Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Derek Green, the founder of Green’s Gluten-Free, and I worked together to develop the recipe.

What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The hop aroma and flavor of this beer are quite splendid in comparison to the other Green’s styles due to the dry-hopping. It’s a nice addition to the overall profile of the beer as well as the Green’s collection.

Where does this beer’s name come from?
All the beers in the Green’s Naturally Gluten-Free lineup are named directly for their style.

Is this your “desert island" beer?
With so many types of beer to choose from in this day and age I would say no; however, I do enjoy this beer a great deal. It’s a bit of an unfair question for someone who is capable of consuming gluten. For those who cannot have gluten, Green's Dry-Hopped Lager is an oasis.

Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Light body, citrus-floral aroma, with a hoppy, dry finish.

Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
This beer was created in response to consumer requests for a lighter and easier-drinking naturally gluten-free beer. I have to say, we did pretty well, as even people who try this beer in a blind taste test have a tough time determining that it’s made from ancient grains rather than more commonly used brewing ingredients.

What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Gluten-free pizza, or hearty soups and stews made from gluten-free ingredients.
