Monday Night Brewing Brewmaster Peter Kiley Talks Tie 8 On

We spoke with Monday Night Brewing Brewmaster Peter Kiley about Tie 8 On.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
I created this one alongside our Wood Cellar manager, Tim McDonnell.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
Every thread of this blend plays such an important role in the overall beer. If I had to pick one aspect, I would have to say that the creativity that went into designing this beer.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
One of the symbols of our brewery is a loosened necktie. At our West Midtown location, we even have a wall covered with them. The theme for our anniversary party is always “Tie One On.” And since we created this beer for our 8th anniversary party, we had to go with “Tie 8 On.” To stay on theme, we blended this strong ale from 8 different beers aged in 8 different barrels.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Absolutely not. It’s 8 unique beers from 8 unique barrels, so it might take 10 sentences to describe this beer properly.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
When we started this project, Tim was fairly new to the team. The process of selecting barrels from our stock and blending them together was an amazing bonding experience that I will always remember.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
An 8-year-old's birthday cake.
