Motorworks Brewing Head Brewer Bob Haa Talks Midnight Espresso

Motorworks Brewing Head Brewer Bob Haa Talks Midnight Espresso

We spoke with Motorworks Brewing Head Brewer Bob Haa about Midnight Espresso.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Bob Haa (Head Brewer), Crystal Haa (Bob’s wife), and Jose Martinez (Lead Brewer)

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
The complex fruity, roasty flavors all derived from the coffee beans.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
It gets its name from its foundation: a great Indonesian espresso blend made from dark-roasted Sumatra beans and lightly-roasted Sulawesi beans.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
Probably not, it might be a bit heavy for a desert island beer.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Like drinking my favorite cup of coffee in beer form.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
We roast our own coffee beans in house to control the flavor of the beer. I love using lighter-roasted coffee beans to impart sweet, fruity flavors – a concept that is fairly new to many American coffee drinkers.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
Midnight Espresso works great in a vanilla ice cream float or with some good chocolate cheesecake.
