Two Roads Brewing Co. Master Brewer Phil Markowski Talks Two Juicy

We spoke with Two Roads Brewing Co. Master Brewer Phil Markowski about Two Juicy.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
It is a citrus bomb on the nose and the palate. What I most like about Two Juicy is the slight bitterness that balances this beer for me. I like Juicy IPAs but many come across as too sweet for me.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
We are perhaps overly fond of puns at Two Roads, and this is a case of where we just couldn’t help ourselves!

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
It just might be. If I were stranded on a desert island I think I would especially appreciate the 8.2 percent ABV to help me forget that I was stranded on a desert island.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Juicy! (I just left 9 words on the table!)

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
We originally brewed this beer for a beer fest that we organized. We called it “OJ IPA” with our tongues firmly in our cheeks (we were not convinced at the time that juicy IPA was a “thing”). The beer was an unexpected smash. We set on immediately brewing more but had to come up with a different name since “OJ IPA” was taken. And we were starting to believe that hazy, juicy IPAs might be around for a while.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
How about having it with champagne for a beer-inspired Mimosa? Did I actually say that or just think it?
