Wild Leap Brew Co. Chief Brewing Officer Chris Elliott Talks Alpha Abstraction, Vol. 16

We spoke with Wild Leap Brew Co. Chief Brewing Officer Chris Elliott about Alpha Abstraction, Vol. 16.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)
I love the flavor of this beer. The featured hop has a fantastic, creamy citrus-forward flavor with a hint of berry and melon.

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Fruit-free juice.

BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
Yes. Although this is the 16th Volume of this series, each with a different feature hop or hop combination, this is my favorite to date because this volume features a unique experimental hop in its last year of production. Hopsteiner EXP06300 is a perfect hop for the type of juicy IPAs that we like to make, but the yields that farmers produced were lower than necessary for the growers to continue with this variety. The short-lived nature of some of the experimental hops, combined with the shorter shelf life of our fresh, juicy IPAs make for some bittersweet, fleeting happiness.

BC: What's a good food pairing for this beer?
The slightly sweet nature of Alpha Abstraction is a perfect beer for all types of barbequed meats with smokey, sweet sauces, especially pulled pork and brisket.
