Wild Leap Brew Co. Chief Brewing Officer Chris Elliott Talks Caramel Cake Stout

We spoke with Wild Leap Brew Co. Chief Brewing Officer Chris Elliott about Caramel Cake Stout.

BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Our Lead Brewer, Doug Saylor, and I came up with this one. Doug has become our stout guy, he really has helped dial in our big stout recipes, and has a great palate for designing complex stouts.

BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
I really enjoy the caramel, vanilla and cinnamon flavors in this beer. They work so well with each other, and really combine to taste exactly like a caramel cake.

BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
We decided to go with a very simple and explanatory name on this one. Our target was a beer that tastes exactly like a caramel cake, and we wanted the name to tell people exactly what to expect.

BC: Is this your “desert island beer?”
This beer is definitely one of my favorite stouts, and from a calorie standpoint it would absolutely be the best beer to have if I was stuck on a desert island!

BC: Can you describe this beer in 10 words or less?
Thick, sweet, rich and satisfying after-dinner delight.
