This double IPA starts off strong with a pronounced fruity, hoppy aroma (grapefruit and pineapple) and a beautiful orange color with a generous creamy white head. This early promise is not sustained, however, as both the expected IBUs and substantial maltiness (and strength) expected for the style are not in evidence throughout the taste and aftertaste, and the early head dissipates quickly. The tease of the aroma yields to an enduring impression, which is perhaps best described as a “one-point-five IPA” than a true Double. Clean and well-brewed, this is a very good version of the style but lacks the legs and the enduring hop flavor to be a true Double IPA exemplar.
