7 of the Best Places to Enjoy a Beer in Mississippi – Plus What to Drink There

If you are planning a trip to Mississippi, you’ll definitely want to know about the best places to enjoy a beer. So, here is our pick of the top seven spots, with drink recommendations for each one.

1. The Mississippi Ale House and Brew Pub

If you are looking for the best craft beer from all over Mississippi, you need only visit one place: The Mississippi Ale House and Brew Pub. Located in the city of Olive Branch, the venue even brews its own beer at its next-door facility. You cannot buy any drinks other than beer at this place – but why would you want to?

Quite honestly, all of the beers that are served here are worth sampling, but the Hop Doctor is especially recommended.

2. Key City Brewing

Based in Vicksburg, Key City Brewing brews beers that are inspired by Belgian traditions. You can try more than twenty tap beers from a continually changing menu.

Two of the best beers that are always available are O'Hanrahan Curse, which is a gorgeous Irish red ale, and Death on Two Legs, which is a delicious double IPA.

3. Fondren Public

This Jackson pub has twenty-four tap beers and forty-seven bottled beers from several Mississippi breweries, including Lazy Magnolia and Southern Prohibition. Andygator, which is a Bavarian Maibock-style beer brewed by Abita Brewing, is especially recommended.

Fondren Public is a great place to hang out as it not only features some great beers and a fantastic atmosphere. It also has a shuffleboard table and some outdoor bocce ball courts.

4. The Pearl Tiki Bar

Not only can you enjoy a beer in Mississippi at breweries and bars. There are also some wonderful Mississippi restaurants where you can relax with a first-class beer.

For instance, at The Pearl Tiki Bar in Jackson, you can enjoy delicious Polynesian-inspired small plates along with a beer like a Chandeleur Pineapple Wheat or Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale.

While there are not many beers available at The Pearl Tiki Bar, those that are available are truly divine.

5. Mahogany Bar

This bar in Hattiesburg features 145 beers, including tap beers from all nine of Mississippi’s breweries. Mahogany Bar also has a huge selection of whiskey.

Some of the best draft beers include the Chandeleur Blueberry Crumble, the Yazoo Gerst, and the Southern Prohibition Devil’s Harvest.

6. Brickhaus Brewtique

At Brickhaus Brewtique in Meridian, you can try up to sixty-three varieties of tap craft beer – but we do not recommend that you do so in one sitting! If you like IPAs, try the lively Celebration Ale, the Okra – which is a delicious Hazy Double IPA, or the mightily juicy Jucifer. You may prefer tangy sour beers, in which case, try the Drive Thru: Purple 900, Transatlantique Kriek, or the Fluffer Nutter.

Fruit beers, such as Sugar Plum, Barney, and Strawberry Lager, are available too, as are stouts and porters like Rêve Coffee Stout, Hershey’s Chocolate Porter, and the wonderfully-named Gotta Get Up to Get Down stout.

All of the above beers are recommended. But there are plenty of others to try at Brickhaus Brewtique.

7. The Bulldog

Lastly, make sure you do not miss out on a visit to The Bulldog in Jackson. With wooden tables, soft lighting, and polished brass, it is a proper old-school bar that features a marvelous selection of beers on tap.

Furthermore, the fifty tap beers are continually rotating, so you will always find something new to give a go. At present, three of the best beers on tap are Siren Blonde Ale, Mississippi Queen Blonde Ale, and Suzy B Blonde Ale.

The Takeaway
