Brazil, England, France: Will Any of Them Actually Win World Cup 2022?

Come Thanksgiving 2022; the air will be filled with more than the sweet smell of turkey and mashed potatoes. For once, a major sports tournament with enough global appeal and interest will attempt to take the spotlight of Thanksgiving.

First-time hosts, Qatar, welcome 32 teams to the World Cup 2022, which is expected to be an enormous tournament for the ages. The timing couldn’t be more decisive, following behind a major holiday in Halloween, through Thanksgiving, and just before Christmas.

As usual, the World Cup is expected to be an event watched by year-round followers and casual soccer fans alike. Bookmakers can usually see the increase in bets in the category soccer, as everyone wants to be involved in what is one of the major events in the sport worldwide. Bettors set their stakes for their favorite team in the World Cup 2022 and can do so with the use of online betting platforms like Unibet. Using the platform’s mobile app, fans can simultaneously watch a game and set their bets – and stay informed about the ranking around the clock. But who are the favorites for this year’s World Cup?

Title Favorites for the Competition

FIFA announced eight groups of four teams for the tournament on the 1st of April 2022. As always, the grouping drew celebration, murmurs, and indifference from fans and teams alike, who look forward to some elite plays in the coming months. So far, these teams are favorites, and here’s why:

Brazil

Brazil has a rich history in the World Cup alongside a long-standing soccer culture and could be one of the favorites this year. And for good reasons, too. Firstly, Brazil has a talent-rich squad with enough depth in every area to rival the table toppers in huge domestic leagues like the Bundesliga or English Premier League. The squad is bustling with instinct, creativity, panache, and speed—qualities that highlight their affinity for the trophy, having won it five times in the past.

Secondly, Brazil has a much easier bracket of all the teams drawn into groups. It’s hard to see any of their opponents in the same group running out as table toppers by the elimination round. This gives them an edge over other title favorites, like England and France, who face much tougher groups.

England

After a disappointing end to their Euro campaign, the Three Lions go into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, prepared to grind out a win. Italy, who were the better team on the final day, failed to qualify for the tournament, but that will do little to assuage the hurt of being so close but oh-so-far from a title in several years.

The English side has stellar players in all areas, with a vast basket of willing options. The squad easily has the better depth of all three title favorites, enough to mount a challenge and finally bring it home. But their journey to the finale is rife with stiff competition from tournament juggernauts like Denmark, Belgium, France, and Portugal. So it’d be interesting to see how the Three Lions will navigate to the top of the pile.

France

Lest you forget, France goes into the tournament as defending champions, having run out as winners of the previous tournament. And considering that they have had the title for four years, it’s unlikely the French side will be willing to part with their crown easily. Factor in a star-studded team filled with some of the most in-demand and in-form players, such as the illustrious midfield dynamo in Paul Pogba and N'golo Kante, and the lethal finishers in the final third of Kylian Mbappé and Karim Benzema, and you have one of the finest teams in the tournament. With such a daring side, it’s not unlikely to expect France to break the 60-year-old record of successive World Cup wins set by Brazil.
