High ABV Beer Hits Ohio Market

Earlier this year, Ohio voted to eliminate its 12 percent ABV cap of beer produced and sold in the state, which went into effect August 31. Now, the powerful brews are rolling in.

The new law will only define beer by its ingredients, a move which the Ohio brewing community has long awaited. On the first day the legislation went into effect, more than 50 beers were registered for production and sale, ranging from 12.8 to 28% ABV (Sam Adams Utopias), and boasting a sizable representation from local brewers.
