Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
Our customers’ desire for specialties and my desire to live up to this led to us developing Wernesgrüner Dark. We pulled on the experience of almost 600 years of brewing tradition and knowledge made it possible for the recipe for Wernesgrüner Dark to develop.
What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
A special mashing procedure and raw materials of the highest quality mean that a special black beer has been developed. The special characteristics of our black beer include the fine-poured, creamy foam and the typical mahogany color. Its aroma invokes a range of intense, spicy flavors including sage, roasted chestnuts, dark honey, bitter chocolate, and fresh farmhouse bread.

Intense flavors balanced out with freshness and elegance.
What's a good food pairing for this beer?
MS: Vogtland Sauerbraten with green dumplings; Roast beef with bread dumplings; Game dishes (especially wild boar and venison); Smokey spare ribs. Excellent desserts can also be made using our Dark.
