The Boston Beer Co. Invests $85 Million to Expand Its Cincinnati Operations

The Boston Beer Co.'s Cincinnati taproom and brewery has announced an investment of $85 million to expand the brewery's operations in the city's Over-the-Rhine district. Full details on this investment are below.

This week’s $85M investment from Sam Adams to expand their Cincinnati-based brewery operations in the city’s famed historical Over-the-Rhine district is the largest brewery investment in the city’s history, and a testimony to the community’s deep brewery legacy and skilled workforce. Boston Beer founder Jim Koch, whose family traces their brewing roots back to Cincinnati and the chance discovery of an old family recipe that became its flagship Boston Lager, was drawn to the region for the ample skilled workforce and worked closely with REDI Cincinnati, the region's top economic development agency, to bring this expansion to life.

The expansion will include the installation of two new canning lines, internal renovations, new parking areas for workers and visitors and new routes for trucks that carry ingredients in and finished beverages out. The new caning lines are state-of-the-art and will allow the creation of variety packs in a way that has never been done before, allowing the company to quadruple production locally, and add on 107 new jobs. The entire expansion will be complete by June 1, 2021.

Today, nearly 50 breweries and counting are operating and celebrating the rich beer-loving tradition in Cincinnati. Home to the country's largest Oktoberfest, drawing nearly 700,000 people, Cincinnati has a rich legacy complete with a network of underground tunnels used during the prohibition era, a time when Cincinnati residents drank more beer than the entire country.

Cincinnati’s legacy as a place built on brewing mastery thrives in the up and coming Over-the-Rhine district with an impressive variety of shops, restaurants, bars, pubs, and other businesses.
