We spoke with Wild Leap Brew Co. Chief Brewing Officer Chris Elliott about Too Pure to be Pink 2021.
BC: Who came up with this beer’s recipe?
My team and I developed the base malt bill, but the Pink Boots Society worked with Yakima Chief Hops to select the hop blend that we use. One of my favorite things about this beer is that it is a little different every year based on the hops that the Pink Boots Society select. We also brew this beer in collaboration with our local Pink Boots chapter, and it’s a great excuse to hang out and share beers with some of our favorite local brewers.
BC: What’s your favorite aspect of this beer (flavor, aroma, etc.)?
My favorite aspect of this beer is the balance. It has a higher ABV with just enough juicy sweetness to keep it from getting “boozy.” Its also what makes this beer dangerously easy to drink.
BC: Where does this beer’s name come from?
The quote “ She’s too pure to be pink!” from the movie, “Grease.”
BC: Do you know a story – or have a personal story – that revolves around this beer?
Yes! We began our collaboration with members of the Pink Boots Society last year with our first release of “Too Pure to be Pink.” Most of the management positions in our company are currently held by female employees, and this was a great opportunity to celebrate the women who work in our industry and get most of the women on our staff to get involved in the brewing process. Also the packaging day fell perfectly on “International Women’s Day, so we decided to make this a seasonal release each year in early march.
