Lakefront Brewery has always sought creative ways to serve and support the gluten-free community. They proudly innovated the beer space to brew the first ever government approved Certified Gluten-Free beer (New Grist) in 2005, and have since expanded their gluten-free portfolio to three year-round beers. They introduced Maifest in 2022, an annual all-gluten-free spring festival that has been wildly popular. And now they are going one step further by making their CurdWagon food truck exclusively gluten-free, and expanding the menu and availability.
Lakefront’s CurdWagon is the cheese curd slinging food truck that operates on their newly renovated Milwaukee Riverwalk patio space, providing summer eats with a beautiful view. Last year, they announced Gluten-Free Food Truck Fridays where once a month, their CurdWagon went all gluten-free on their riverfront patio. The response was staggering, and it demonstrated an increasing level of demand for their gluten-free options. That’s when Owner Russ Klisch and Executive Chef Kristin Hueneke made the decision for the CurdWagon to go all gluten-free in 2024.
“We aimed to go beyond just sprucing up food items that are normally gluten-free. We created satisfying versions of the menu items that those with gluten-free diets rarely get to enjoy, like our fish fry and beer battered fried cheese curds.” says Chef Kristin, “The best part is, if you didn’t know they were gluten-free, you wouldn’t even notice a difference. That’s how much time and effort we’ve put into this.”
Lakefront’s all gluten-free CurdWagon will officially launch on their patio this Friday just in time for Memorial Day weekend. It will then be open the following hours, all summer long.
Friday | 3pm to 8pm
Saturday | 12pm to 7pm
Sunday | 12pm to 4pm
New Food Truck Manager, Bryan Edwards, helped develop the new menu and is excited to show it off. Vegan and vegetarian options will be available, as well as special items like barbacoa tacos and fire chips. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Lakefront’s CurdWagon curd of the summer, Cookies ‘N Cream made with real Oreo cookies!
Lakefront notes that their everyday menus in the Beer Hall will remain untouched for the summer. Customers are welcome to purchase any food or drinks in their Beer Hall upstairs and carry them outside to enjoy along the river.
