Devils Backbone Partners With Appalachian Trail Conservancy

Devils Backbone Brewing Co. has announced a partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, which helps maintain and preserve the AT. For all the details, see below:

LEXINGTON, VA – Devils Backbone Brewing Company is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC), a nonprofit organization whose
mission is to preserve and manage the Appalachian Trail (A.T.). To build awareness about the Trail and bring visibility to the ATC’s great work, the organization’s logo will appear on the packaging for Trail Angel Weiss, a Bavarian-style Hefeweizen (4.9% ABV, 12 IBU) that’s part of the Devils Backbone Daypack seasonable series of canned, sessionable beers. The brewery will donate $1 to the ATC for each case sold in support of Trail maintenance. The beer will be available in market through the month of July.

Devils Backbone Brewing Company has supported A.T. thru-hikers for many years and the Basecamp Brewpub is located near Reid’s Gap, a major A.T. mile marker. When thru-hikers pass through Nelson County, they are welcomed at Basecamp and invited to set up camp and enjoy a fresh hiker’s breakfast. This partnership is an exciting opportunity to further support A.T. hikers and
promote stewardship of the longest hiking-only footpath in the world. It is also a major component of Devils Backbone’s new Heartland Initiative.

Backbone is a friend to the trail and the thru-hikers from around the world,” says Devils Backbone Founder Heidi Crandall. “I hope to provide additional funds and support for the ATC in maintaining and preserving the trail system.”

Starting this year, the Trail Angel Weiss six-pack carriers now read: “On mountain peaks as far as the eye can see, millions of hikers trek from Maine to Georgia. The Appalachian Trail connects us all, and with your donation of $1.00 per case of Trail Angel Weiss beer, your support helps the Appalachian Trail Conservancy preserve & manage the Appalachian Trail, ensuring that its vast natural beauty and priceless cultured heritage can be shared and enjoyed today, tomorrow and for centuries to come!”

Trail Angel Weiss is a special beer to the Devils Backbone family. While hiking the A.T., hikers come across “trail angels” that provide a little bit of the storied “trail magic” — unexpected acts of kindness to help the hikers make the 2000 mile trek from Georgia to Maine, like giving them a lift down the road, sharing food with them, or giving back directly to the A.T. by volunteering for trail maintenance opportunities.

Devils Backbone and the ATC are exploring additional ways to collaborate and bring awareness to the missions of both the brewery and the non-profit organization during 2017. Trail Angel Weiss is available now through July in cans and on draft throughout the Devils Backbone distribution footprint.
