Coconut Jucifer IPA by Gnarly Barley Brewing Co. was evaluated using the 2015 edition on the Beer Judge Certification Program style guidelines under subheading Specialty IPA 21B.
Poured from a sixteen-ounce can and judged from a pint glass.
Hazy and pale yellow in color with a substantial white head and a citrus aroma redolent of passion fruit and orange rind, it was immediately evident that the base beer was that of a New England IPA.
The flavor in many ways was reminiscent of the aroma in that citrus notes blended with New World hops (especially Mosaic) and the fruity presence of papaya and mango with notes of coconut in the background. The firm presence of dry hopping was also manifest here.
As per style the body was medium to thin, well-conditioned with a touch of alcoholic warmth.
If you are a devotee to the New England IPA style this one hits all the parameters and should be sampled.
