Judge’s Review: 92 Rating - Sunburst Juicy IPA by Wild Heaven Beer

Sunburst IPA, Wild Heaven Beer
Description

Combining what we miss about classic IPAs with what we love about modern IPAs, Sunburst IPA is our flagship of the style. The perfect IPA should have a touch of bitterness and blend that with the juicy, tropical notes that come from the best of modern hops and a clean, crisp finish.
Sunburst IPA features an ideal blend of Talus, Citra, Galaxy, Mosaic, Amarillo, Cascade and Chinook hops - adding something special from each varietal.
Eric Johnson, Wild Heaven’s co-founder and creative force says "My vision was to create the ultimate IPA that honors the best of two branches of IPA (West Coast and Hazy IPA) while avoiding the tendencies of many of these beers to drift into overly extreme expressions of flavor. By capturing what we love about those styles we found our path."

Sunburst Juicy IPA by Wild Heaven Beer is being evaluated as a Hazy IPA (Category 21C) from the 2021 BJCP Style guidelines.

This beer opens up with aromas of ripe melon, sparkling pineapple juice and blueberry jam. There are strong yeast esters that are fruity in nature at the tail end of the aroma.

The color is light golden with a slight haze. Many bubbles are seen rising to the top, which is indicative of the carbonation level, although the white head was thin.

In the flavor there is pineapple, ripe melon, blueberries, passion fruit then it becomes sweeter as it releases the malt flavors that play well against the high concentration of fruitiness. Balanced toward the hops, as per the style guidelines, it delivers a finish that is semi-sweet, while the bitterness is kept low.

Medium-light-bodied, with a medium-high carbonation makes this beer very drinkable. No warmth from the alcohols, it has just a touch of creaminess, and the very subtle astringency from the high concentration of hops is not offensive.

This is a delicious beer that represents the style of today. It is big in hop aroma and flavor with a delicately placed malty presence. As hazy IPAs go, this one has a very crushable drinkability. A slight alcoholic note is there to remind you that this is not fruit juice, and should be enjoyed responsibly.
