Tripped Up by Low Road Brewing is being evaluated as a Belgian Tripel (2021 BJCP Guidelines Category 26C). It poured slightly hazy with decent but not brilliant clarity. Color was a burnished gold and true to style, and delicate lacing decorated the interior of the glass as the sample was consumed.

The aroma of this tripel features a complex fermentation profile: prominent esters of banana, pear, slight clove, white pepper and cinnamon. Restrained white bread and crackery malt provide the support needed for the complexity to shine. Hops were mostly non-existent though. The flavor was also similar to the aroma, though it leaned more towards the fruit from fermentation and a semi-dry finish that could be drier.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed Tripped Up. Its alcohol was well incorporated and barely noticeable despite its heft. The complexity from fermentation puts it solidly in the Trappist realm. That being said, it drinks more like a Golden Strong but you won’t be disappointed if you purchased this one.
