pFriem Canadian Lager by pFriem Family Brewers is an exceptional example of the BJCP Category 2A International Pale Lager as per the 2021 BJCP style guidelines. Canadian lagers have typically been distinctive when compared to their American cousins due to a brighter, crisper and cleaner character being delivered by the former, and this example follows those characteristics very well. This is a very enjoyable and quaffable (perhaps crushable?) offering that really satisfies thirst.

The aroma is very clean, with light sulfur and a mild cereal note and a whiff of noble hops in the background. It is quite attractive in the glass. The beer is a crystal clear, light yellow straw color with a very impressive stand of small white-bubbled head with fantastic retention and lace. Beautiful!,

The flavor matches the aroma quite well, being extremely clean and crisp, with a light cereal note and a moderately low noble hop flavor and bitterness. The balanced character is maintained throughout the drink, from initial sip though the clean dry finish. The body is medium-thin but still has enough backbone to make this brew distinctive. The carbonation is moderate to high, as expected for the style.

Overall, this is simply a great example of what a good old-fashioned uncomplicated beer can be. It hits on all cylinders and would be a wonderful choice as a delicious thirst-quencher. It’s all about the balance in this one. Great job from a top brewery.
