The beer had hints of roasty notes of coffee and no hop presence along with a very dark brown/black color with very little carbonation. The beer had light roasted malts that had subtle hints of coffee-like flavors along with bittering hops. I get a subtle hint of lactose, though not as much as a Sweet Stout would have. The roasted malts were just right – very light and not overdone. Also, one of the first things that I noticed was that this beer had a bit too much bittering hops. For this style, their should be low to no hop flavor; the roasted malts should be the dominating factor in flavor, not the hops, which is the case with this beer. The body was medium and the mouthfeel was creamy with a light carbonation. The aftertaste had a smooth and dry finish of roasted malts and hops.
