There is an intense hop aroma that includes citrus, grapefruit, pine resin, spice, and even a little marmalade. It is not an all hop show though. The malt aroma includes toast and a lot of caramel. The flavor is a parade of hops and malt. Due to the intense hop flavor I was expecting a huge bitter finish like a red Imperial IPA. I was surprised when there was a more subtle bitterness than I was expecting. Despite the malt complexity there was just enough sweetness to keep the beer from having a totally dry finish. The body is medium-full with a substantial alcohol warmth without an overly bitter finish.
