Beer Here: 21st Amendment Toaster Pastry

21st Amendment Toaster Pastry IPA Beer

In honor of its new brewery opening in San Leandro, CA, 21st Amendment Brewery recently announced a beer inspired by everyone's favorite breakfast treat: Pop-Tarts!

Toaster Pastry is a 7.6% ABV Red IPA brewed with an interesting blend of malt and hops to create a flavor that's somewhat akin to the staple breakfast food of children everywhere.

We recently got our hands on this fascinating brew and sent it to one of our BJCP-certified judges for review. You can find his review here.

21st Amendment Co-founder Nico Freccio recently gave me a guided tour of the brewery's cavernous new facility in San Leandro, a former Kellogg Cereal factory. One of the beers that he shared with me during our visit was Toaster Pastry, named in honor of the building's former tenant's Pop Tart product line. Whether it's just my imagination or real live flavor signals bouncing from my buds/nose to my brain, this beer does seem hint at the strawberry jam that the fire engine red can lists (these guys are beer marketing geniuses). I've finished off a few of the generously giant 19.2-ounce cans that Nico sent home with me, and have but one left in the fridge that I plan to experiment with and enjoy with dinner this Christmas evening.
