Oktoberfest by Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. was judged as a BJCP Style 6A - Märzen.

This pours very clear with only the faintest haze and with an off-white head of largish bubbles that collapses fairly quickly. The nose is brilliant. Loads of toasted bread and grain and the faintest whisper of caramel. It's super inviting, with a hint of a woodsy and herbal hops. On tasting, it is a bit sweeter and more bitter than I had anticipated. The bitterness is fairly aggressive, deep into the finish. This does, however, assist in mitigating the somewhat substantial residual sweetness. Not quite as clean on the palate, nor as balanced as one would expect. There's also an odd minerality that reminds me of too much sulfate that affects the drinkability. Reasonably clean but perhaps a touch undercarbonated and astringent overall. Okay, but could use some more balance and maybe some water adjustments overall.
