Redux Irish Coffee Time Golden Stout by Garage Brewing Co. is being evaluated as a Mixed-Style Beer (Category 34B) from the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines.

Redux Irish Coffee Time Golden Stout pours a deep gold color that borders on amber. The clarity is quite good, and the off-white head leaves a thin stand of fine bubbles on the beer. The aroma features a dominant oak and whiskey character that remains in the forefront, with a light spicy alcohol, light coffee, peach pit, light vanilla and light caramel that fades in and out as the beer warms.

The flavor also has a dominant barrel character of oak and whiskey. The other characteristics struggle to be found amongst the barrel character, with spicy alcohol, light caramel and a low level of dark roast coffee making an appearance. High hop bitterness emerges mid-palate and lingers long through the dry finish. A medium-full body, moderate alcohol warming and medium carbonation finishes out this beer.

This beer has a lot of potential, but right now the barrel character tends to dominate and force the other characteristics into the background. Perhaps some aging will help to soften the oak and whiskey and allow the other aroma and flavor attributes to create a more balanced beer.
