No Worries West Coast IPA from Belching Beaver Brewery, is being evaluated as an American IPA (Category 21A) from the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines.
This beer pours a slightly hazy bright gold, with a fine, off-white head that lingers and contributes to a very inviting appearance. The aroma features a moderate dank hop character, with a light hit of onion and garlic. The hops evolve and turn into mixed tropical fruit with light grapefruit zest as the beer warms and vents. Light cookie dough-like maltiness emerges as the hops fade.
The flavor also offers a moderate dank hop character, with light peach that transitions into mixed tropical fruit with a focus on mango. High hop bitterness emerges mid-palate along with moderately light bready, doughy malt and lingers into an off-dry finish. The smooth hop bitterness provides a firm backbone to the residual malt sweetness. This a medium-bodied beer with moderate carbonation and a pleasant, smooth alcohol warming.
Although this beer doesn't have the big blast of hop aroma and flavor that northwest hop heads have come to love in an American IPA, the overall hop character evolves throughout the sample and offers some fun complexity in how the hops are presented.
