LP Witbier, Dokkaebier
Description

Did you know Szechuan Peppercorn is not a true pepper and comes from a plant in the citrus family? And it's also really hard to spell, but it does create a unique beer. Not spicy in the pepper sense, this fun and flavorful witbier is citrusy, herbal, and earthy.

LP Witbier by Dokkaebier is being evaluated as a Spice, Herb or Vegetable Beer (Category 30A) from the 2015 BJCP Style Guidelines.

LP Witbier pours a hazy medium copper with a thick and creamy off-white head that lingers. The aroma greets the drinker with prominent lemongrass, mixed citrus fruit and zest and moderate herbal character. There is a light grainy maltiness that develops as the beer warms and vents. There is a pleasant impression of sweetness in the aroma.

The flavor opens with moderate mixed citrus and a light woody, earthy character. Medium hop bitterness emerges mid-palate, lingering into the lightly sweet finish. A moderate mixed herbal flavor develops as the beer continues to open up, along with a light grainy malt. A medium-full body and moderate carbonation rounds out this beer.

The lemongrass and peppercorn notes take the drinker on an enjoyable ride and would make a good pairing with any Asian-style cuisine. The spices are well-integrated, and, although they take a dominant role, there is enough malt character to remind you that this is indeed a beer.
